Filter Housing Flange Connections: Confirm the Mating Details
“A two-inch flange” is not a complete filter housing connection specification. Before ordering, the buyer and supplier need to agree the flange standard, nominal size, class or designation, facing and mating dimensions, as well as the position of the inlet and outlet.
This guide supports enquiries for INCEFILTER stainless steel filter housings. Connection availability and pressure-temperature limits must be confirmed for the proposed model; a general product image is not an approved connection drawing.
Create a nozzle schedule
Give each connection a separate identifier, such as inlet, outlet, vent, drain and gauge port. Record its function and whether it is supplied as a flange, thread, clamp or another agreed connection. A complete nozzle schedule helps prevent an inlet specification from being copied onto a different service port.
| Field | What the buyer should provide |
|---|---|
| Standard and edition | The project requirement or verified designation of the existing mating connection |
| Nominal size and class | The full designation, rather than a measured pipe outside diameter alone |
| Facing and seal | Mating face type and the proposed gasket arrangement for engineering review |
| Dimensional interface | Flange diameter, bolt circle, hole count and hole diameter where an existing interface must be matched |
| Position | Centreline height, orientation and distance from an agreed datum |
| Supply boundary | Whether counterflanges, gaskets, fasteners or adaptors are included |
Use the correct standard, not an assumed equivalence
ASME describes B16.5 as covering flange pressure-temperature ratings, materials, dimensions, tolerances and other requirements. A nominal size alone therefore cannot establish a complete interface. If the project uses a different standard, state it explicitly and have the supplier check compatibility against the required mating component.
Do not convert a pressure class into a universal working pressure or assume that a matching bolt pattern establishes a suitable pressure rating. Ask the responsible engineer to review the flange, vessel, gasket and bolting requirements together at the design conditions.
Review orientation on the assembly drawing
Mark the direction of flow and an unambiguous viewing direction. A top view should identify the inlet and outlet relative to the support legs or another fixed datum. A side view should show connection elevations and the space required for adjacent valves and pipework.
Check the maintenance-clearance layout at the same time: a nozzle can match the pipe while its location obstructs the lid, filter basket or element removal. Ask who will provide pipe supports and assess permissible connection loads. Do not plan to pull misaligned pipework into place using the flange bolts.
Resolve uncertainty before fabrication
For replacement work, send legible photographs of markings and a dimensioned drawing of the existing interface. Treat photographs as supporting evidence rather than a substitute for dimensions. If markings are missing or measurements conflict, flag the connection as unconfirmed instead of selecting the closest-looking flange.
Agree an approval revision and record any exceptions to the enquiry. A change to nozzle orientation, facing or connection standard after drawing approval should trigger a new interface review. This purchasing check does not replace installation instructions or the project’s engineering approval.
Send a complete housing enquiry
Contact INCEFILTER with your nozzle schedule and layout, together with the liquid, flow, temperature, operating and design pressures, filter type and material requirements. Request a quotation that identifies the proposed connections, drawing approval stage and included accessories. For bag systems, also confirm the liquid filter bag and basket configuration separately.
