Calendered Filter Mesh: Agree Finished Thickness Before Ordering
If filter mesh thickness controls fit in a clamp, mould or frame, specify the finished condition and inspection method—not only the starting mesh description. A request for “calendered mesh” is incomplete without a target, tolerance and agreed basis for measurement.
For a custom enquiry through INCEFILTER filter mesh, explain the assembly requirement and ask whether the proposed material and finishing route can meet it. Calendering availability and achievable tolerances require confirmation; this article does not promise a particular process or precision for every mesh.
Distinguish the starting fabric from the finished part
Calendering uses rolling to alter mesh thickness and surface geometry. BOPP describes rolling and calendering to establish final dimensions in its metal-mesh fluid-filtration applications. Its proprietary treatment and reported precision are specific to its products and cannot be assigned to an INCEFILTER quotation.
Keep the incoming mesh specification separate from the finished requirement. Record the material, weave and starting construction, then identify the processed condition to be supplied. Do not assume that an earlier data sheet still describes every property after additional processing.
Agree how thickness will be measured
| Inspection detail | Question to settle |
|---|---|
| Condition | Is the measurement on relaxed flat mesh or an assembled part? |
| Instrument | Which contact geometry and measuring force are used? |
| Sampling | Where and how many readings are required? |
| Acceptance | Are limits applied to individual readings, averages or both? |
| Reporting | How are the lot, roll and drawing revision identified? |
Different measurement arrangements can produce results that are difficult to compare. Agree the method before resolving a tolerance dispute. A supplier’s typical value should not silently become a guaranteed maximum or minimum in the purchase order.
Check filtration and assembly requirements separately
Thickness compliance does not establish filtration efficiency, pressure loss or finished-part strength. Request the applicable opening and performance information for the proposed final condition. If the mesh is incorporated into a moulded or clamped part, validate a representative assembly rather than approving only a loose sample.
State the cut shape, edge requirement and any required warp-and-weft orientation. Avoid changing the finishing process after sample approval without reviewing the effect on the approved part.
Control the sample-to-production handover
Retain the approved sample identification, drawing revision, inspection method and results. Ask the supplier to state the production specification explicitly. Use the mesh sample approval guide to distinguish a development sample from the final purchase requirement.
For repeat orders, compare the same measurement basis and report format. Investigate differences before treating a new batch as interchangeable, particularly where thickness governs the assembly gap.
Send a finished-mesh enquiry
Request an INCEFILTER mesh feasibility review with material, weave or opening requirement, finished thickness and tolerance, measurement method, part drawing, quantity and destination. Explain the function of the thickness limit and provide a sample if available. Ask for confirmation of the offered finishing condition, evidence and sample plan before placing a production order.
