Filter Mesh Roll Length: Specify Continuous Pieces and Splices
A filter mesh order for 100 metres does not necessarily define how many uninterrupted pieces the buyer needs. Total delivered length, length on each roll and minimum usable continuous length are different purchasing requirements. State all three when a joint or short piece could interrupt cutting or fabrication.
This guide is a proposed ordering workflow for INCEFILTER filter mesh. It does not claim that supplied rolls normally contain joints. Ask the supplier to confirm the actual supply format, permissible discontinuities and identification method for the quoted specification.
Define the length that matters to production
| Requirement | Meaning to agree |
|---|---|
| Total quantity | The combined length or area being purchased |
| Individual roll length | The quantity wound on each core, with its agreed tolerance |
| Minimum continuous length | The uninterrupted usable piece needed for the production operation |
| Excluded sections | How joints, damage or other agreed exclusions affect usable quantity |
| Short pieces | Whether they are acceptable and how they are listed and priced |
Also specify usable width and permitted orientation. A continuous strip that is too narrow for the approved blank does not meet the requirement. The roll-width and cutting-yield guide covers the transverse layout; this checklist addresses continuity along the length.
Why the same total length can give a different yield
Consider a hypothetical order containing 100 metres of usable material. If each blank needs 12 uninterrupted metres along the roll, one continuous 100-metre piece can provide eight lengths before other allowances. Two separate 50-metre pieces also provide eight. Four separate 25-metre pieces provide eight, but five separate 20-metre pieces provide only five.
This simple example ignores cutting gaps and end trimming. It illustrates why total metres alone cannot guarantee the same production output. Calculate the layout separately for every continuous segment, and include the actual cutting allowances before approving the order.
Agree how any joint will be handled
If the supplier proposes a joined roll, ask whether the joint is intended only to keep the roll together for handling or is qualified as part of the finished component. Do not assume that a transport splice can remain within an active filtration surface.
Specify whether joints are prohibited, permitted only outside finished parts, or subject to a separately approved construction. If a joint is permitted, agree its location marking and any exclusion length. Ask whether tapes, adhesives or other joining materials will contact the mesh and whether they are acceptable for the intended application.
Request a roll map where continuity is critical
A practical roll record can list the roll identifier, measured length, continuous segments and the location of agreed exclusions from a defined starting end. Define the measurement method and handling condition so that buyer and supplier interpret length consistently. Do not invent a universal measurement tension for every mesh.
At receipt, compare labels and records before releasing material to cutting. Preserve the original roll identity when splitting stock into smaller pieces. Use the incoming inspection checklist for the associated specification and condition checks.
Write an enquiry that can be quoted
A useful request is: “Please confirm total usable quantity, individual roll lengths, minimum continuous piece length and whether any joints or short pieces are included. Identify exclusions and advise any difference from our attached cutting requirement.” Add the actual dimensions and acceptance limits for your job.
Send INCEFILTER your mesh specification and continuous-length requirement, together with the blank drawing, quantity and packaging needs. Resolve exceptions in the quotation before ordering. The example above is planning arithmetic, not a promised roll format or production yield.
