Filter Housing Material Certificates: Check the Document Trail

A stainless steel material certificate is useful only when the buyer can connect it to the material used in the supplied filter housing. A generic grade datasheet describes a material family; it does not identify the particular shell, cover or connection delivered for an order.

When enquiring about INCEFILTER stainless steel filter housings, agree the required document package before purchase. Availability and scope must be confirmed for the proposed order. This guide does not assert that every housing includes a particular certificate or third-party inspection.

Start with a component coverage list

List the components for which evidence is required. Depending on the project, these might include shell material, cover, nozzles, flanges and internal metallic parts. Different components can come from different material batches, so one certificate should not automatically be treated as evidence for the complete assembly.

Specify the document requirement precisely

BSI identifies EN 10204 as the standard addressing types of inspection documents for metallic products. Outokumpu’s ordering guidance separately identifies document codes 3.1 and 3.2. If a project requires a particular document type, write that requirement explicitly rather than requesting only “a stainless steel certificate.”

Have the responsible project engineer determine the required type and acceptance criteria. Do not treat a material inspection document as a substitute for vessel design approval, a pressure-test record or a declaration required for the finished equipment. Those documents answer different questions and need their own agreed scope.

Check the link through fabrication

Ask how source-material identification is retained when plate or tube is cut and made into components. The proposed record should let the reviewer follow the supplied equipment reference to a component and then to its material document. Agree the identification method with the manufacturer; do not prescribe new marking on pressure-containing parts without engineering approval.

For example, a shell entry on a component list may refer to a source plate and its heat reference, while a flange entry points to a different document. The exact format can vary. The important purchasing question is whether the mapping is understandable and complete for the agreed scope.

Handle mismatches before accepting the document pack

If identifiers do not match, a page is missing or a material designation differs from the purchase specification, request clarification from the issuer through the supplier. Do not repair the certificate yourself or infer equivalence from a familiar grade name. Keep the original record and the clarification together.

Coordinate document review with the flange interface review and seal service-data sheet. Verified metal identity alone does not confirm connection fit or compatibility of every wetted component.

Request a defined documentation package
