Custom Nylon Mesh Discs: A Drawing Checklist for Buyers

A quote for a custom nylon mesh disc needs two connected specifications: the woven fabric and the finished part. “Nylon mesh, round, fine filtration” does not define a reproducible component. Even a correct aperture can be paired with a disc that does not fit its holder or leaves too little usable filtration area.

INCEFILTER’s nylon filter mesh range includes custom processed mesh formats. Use this checklist to prepare a drawing and inquiry; confirm the available fabrication method and tolerances with INCEFILTER for the specific design.

Give the fabric its own specification

State the required polymer grade where it matters, weave construction and aperture in micrometres. Add the fabric code or approved sample reference if one exists. Mesh count alone is not a complete opening specification because thread dimensions also affect the opening.

Request the supplier’s matching fabric specification, including relevant aperture tolerance, thread diameter, thickness and open area. Keep these properties attached to one fabric code rather than combining values from several product tables. Resolve conflicting website and quotation values before approving the order.

An aperture describes the woven opening; it does not by itself establish a validated particle-removal efficiency for the complete assembly. If outlet quality is critical, define the required performance and a suitable application test separately.

Dimension the finished part, not just the raw fabric

Drawing item What the buyer should define Question to resolve
Identification Part number, revision, units and fabric code Which specification controls repeat orders?
Outer shape Diameter or outline, with tolerance Does the part fit the holder without distortion?
Internal features Hole diameters, locations, slots or notches Are the features located from clear datums?
Active area Exposed opening and clamped or bonded perimeter How much fabric remains available for flow?
Edge condition Functional requirement for loose yarns, edge sealing or reinforcement Which process can meet the requirement?
Inspection Measurement method, part condition and acceptance rules Will buyer and supplier measure the same way?
Packaging Quantity per pack, protection and identification How will shape and cleanliness be preserved?

Specify whether dimensions apply to the relaxed, flat component or to a defined installed condition. A flexible fabric should not be stretched arbitrarily to pass a dimension check. Mark genuinely functional tolerances and ask the supplier to review manufacturability before setting every dimension to the tightest possible tolerance.

Separate fabric open area from exposed disc area

The disc’s outside diameter is not necessarily its working diameter. A retaining ring, support or bonded perimeter can cover part of the fabric. Draw that boundary so the supplier can distinguish overall size from the area exposed to the liquid.

Fabric open area is a separate property describing the proportion occupied by openings in the weave. Neither that percentage nor the disc diameter alone proves an assembled flow capacity. Provide the liquid, flow requirement, temperature, allowable pressure drop and support arrangement when performance must be assessed.

Define the edge by function

Explain whether loose threads could interfere with assembly or contaminate the process, and whether the perimeter will be clamped, bonded or otherwise retained. Ask the fabricator to propose a process and show a representative sample edge.

As a general fabrication reference, Sefar describes stamping, laser cutting and ultrasonic processing for woven components, with edge and dimensional control addressed as part of fabrication. These are industry examples, not a statement that every method is available from INCEFILTER or suitable for every nylon fabric. Confirm the process, any affected perimeter width and the finished result for your part.

Approve a first article before the production batch

Review the finished sample against the drawing, then check it in the intended holder under the equipment owner’s approved procedure. Verify fit, support, edge retention and the agreed functional requirements. A visual match to a photograph is not a complete approval.

Record the approved fabric code, process, drawing revision and sample identification. Any change to the fabric or edge treatment should trigger review of the affected requirements. For checks on routine delivered batches, use the separate filter mesh incoming inspection checklist.

Send a complete custom-disc inquiry

Send INCEFILTER a dimensioned PDF or technical drawing, fabric requirement, holder details, application conditions, sample quantity, batch quantity and destination. State any cleanliness or documentation requirements explicitly; they should be reviewed and quoted for the actual product.

Request a custom nylon mesh disc quotation. Ask for unresolved drawing items to be listed in the quotation so sample approval and the final purchase specification use the same requirements.
