Filter Bag Immersion Tests: What a Soak Result Can Prove
A filter bag sample that looks unchanged after soaking has passed an observation under those test conditions. It has not automatically demonstrated acceptable filtration, seam strength or service life in the production system. Use an immersion result as one part of a documented selection review.
This guide helps buyers discuss testing for INCEFILTER liquid filter bags. It addresses the interpretation of evidence rather than ranking bag materials. Test methods, sample availability and acceptance criteria should be agreed with the supplier and a competent laboratory for the specific application.
Know exactly what the sample represents
A media swatch represents the sampled media. It may not represent the sewing thread, welded joint, ring or other parts of a finished bag. Record the supplier code and construction, and ask which components were actually exposed and evaluated.
Where the process contains several chemicals or uses a separate cleaning liquid, disclose the full service description. Do not assume that a result for a single ingredient establishes suitability for the mixture or for the entire process sequence.
Read the test conditions alongside the conclusion
ASTM D543 describes evaluation of plastics exposed to chemical reagents and notes that relevance to service depends on how closely the test represents use. Short exposures can help screen materials, but they do not establish long-term performance under continuous exposure. A report should identify exposure conditions, measurements and controls. A casual soak observation should not be described as compliance with that standard.
For a purchasing review, request a concise record:
| Record | Why the buyer needs it |
|---|---|
| Sample identity | Connects the result to the quoted construction |
| Liquid and concentration | Shows what chemical exposure was evaluated |
| Temperature and duration | Defines the exposure represented by the result |
| Measurement method | Distinguishes a visual observation from a measured property change |
| Acceptance criteria | Explains the basis for a pass or a request for further work |
| Untested components or conditions | Identifies the remaining qualification work |
Separate material screening from finished-bag approval
Before releasing a bulk order, ask what evidence covers the bag as assembled. A material comparison cannot resolve whether the ring fits the seat, whether the selected seam construction suits the duty, or whether the bag meets the required outlet-quality target. Use the support basket fit guide for the mechanical interface.
If production verification is needed, agree a controlled trial with the equipment owner after the technical and safety review. Specify the exact bag, acceptable operating envelope, outlet-quality assessment and stop criteria. The filter bag trial guide provides a way to organize these records without treating sample approval as a performance guarantee.
Keep the conclusion within the evidence
Useful wording is: “Sample reference A was evaluated under the conditions listed in report B; the stated criteria were met for the measured properties.” Avoid expanding that conclusion to every chemical, temperature or future operating period.
Keep the report with the approved specification. A later change to media, seam, ring or process liquid should be reviewed against the original evidence. Ask whether the change requires additional testing rather than assuming the previous approval transfers unchanged.
Prepare an INCEFILTER technical enquiry
Send your process conditions and existing test report to INCEFILTER. Include the intended bag size, media, ring, filtration requirement, cleaning sequence and order quantity. Request confirmation of the proposed construction and any evidence still needed before ordering.
