High Flow Filter Quotes: Convert US GPM, Imperial GPM and m³/h
Confirm whether “GPM” means US liquid gallons per minute or Imperial gallons per minute before comparing high flow filter quotations. The two gallon definitions describe different volumes. Converting both quotations into cubic metres per hour makes the arithmetic comparable, but does not prove that either proposed filter can meet the duty.
For INCEFILTER high flow filter cartridges, preserve the original value and unit alongside your converted value. If the gallon definition is missing, mark it as unconfirmed and request clarification.
Use a conversion with the gallon definition attached
NIST’s SI conversion tables distinguish the US gallon from the Imperial gallon. Using approximately 3.785412 litres per US gallon and 4.54609 litres per Imperial gallon gives the following factors:
| Conversion | Calculation |
|---|---|
| US GPM to m³/h | Multiply by approximately 0.2271247 |
| Imperial GPM to m³/h | Multiply by approximately 0.2727654 |
| L/min to m³/h | Multiply by 0.06 |
| m³/h to L/min | Multiply by approximately 16.6667 |
The derivation is litres per gallon × 60 minutes per hour ÷ 1,000 litres per cubic metre. Keep enough digits for the calculation, then round the displayed result to a useful precision. Extra decimal places do not improve the accuracy of an estimated process flow.
A quotation example that exposes the ambiguity
A hypothetical requirement of 100 US GPM converts to about 22.71 m³/h. A requirement of 100 Imperial GPM converts to about 27.28 m³/h. These are different duties despite the same number appearing before “GPM.” Neither value is an INCEFILTER product rating.
If a pump record says only “100 GPM,” do not choose the interpretation based on the supplier’s country. Check the instrument configuration, original datasheet or responsible engineer’s record. Keep the unresolved unit visible until it is confirmed.
Separate arithmetic from filter selection
A converted flow rate is still just a flow rate. It does not determine cartridge quantity, pressure drop, dirt-holding capacity or replacement interval. Graver’s high flow sizing guidance identifies liquid viscosity, temperature, dirt loading and desired changeout interval as additional considerations; use product-specific evidence for the cartridge actually being quoted.
Label whether the figure is total system flow, flow per housing or flow per cartridge. A value copied from one level to another can remain wrong even when its units are converted correctly. Use the flow duty profile guide to document operating periods and peak demand separately.
Make the comparison sheet auditable
For each quotation, retain the source document, original flow and full unit, conversion factor, converted flow, equipment scope and stated test conditions. Compare pressure-drop evidence at the relevant liquid condition; the viscosity and flow-curve guide explains why a water curve may need further review.
Request an INCEFILTER high flow cartridge review with your confirmed flow units, liquid, temperature, outlet-quality requirement and housing details. Ask the quotation to state its units and selection assumptions explicitly.
